Direct answer

The cost of an AI agent on WhatsApp has four parts: the technology, charged monthly; the implementation, generally charged once; Meta's fees, charged per message; and the monthly follow-up. The final amount depends on the volume of conversations, the integrations and the business rules. In Brazil, chatbot plans with public pricing start at around R$100 to R$200 per month (all amounts in this article are in Brazilian reais and refer to the Brazilian market). Agents with implementation and integrations are usually sold by proposal.

"How much does it cost?" is the first question from anyone thinking about putting AI on WhatsApp, and the honest answer is "it depends." This article shows what it depends on: the parts of the price, what makes each one go up or down, a calculation with Meta's fees and the questions for comparing proposals with no surprises on the first invoice.

The four parts of the cost

Part What it is How it is usually charged
Technology The agent's platform: the conversation engine, the connection to the official API and the team's dashboard Monthly or annual license, by volume of conversations, human agents or phone numbers
Implementation Diagnosis, knowledge base, tone of voice, rules, integrations and tests One-time amount, or split over the first months
Meta's fees What Meta charges for messages on the official API Per message, according to the category, through the API provider
Ongoing follow-up Review of conversations, updates to the knowledge base, rule adjustments and reports Monthly, sometimes included in the license

There is also a cost that does not appear in the proposal: the time of the team that receives the conversations handed over by the agent and reviews the answers in the first weeks.

Insight

Implementation is the part that weighs most on the result and the one that most often goes missing from cheap proposals. An agent with a weak knowledge base answers fast and wrong. That is why it is worth understanding what the implementation includes before comparing the price of the license.

Market price ranges in 2026

Prices change fast, and many solutions only state a price in a proposal. As a reference for the Brazilian market, with amounts in Brazilian reais, a comparison by SocialHub updated in May 2026 (in Portuguese) indicates that a chatbot for WhatsApp Business in Brazil costs R$99 to R$2,500 per month, depending on the platform, the volume of conversations and the use of the official API. Entry-level plans with public pricing are around R$100 to R$200 per month, generally with basic AI.

Model How it works Typical cost in Brazil
Meta's agent AI inside WhatsApp Business itself, with no implementation Free at launch, with a subscription announced by Meta
Chatbot platform The company builds the flows and the knowledge base on its own Monthly plan, from about R$100 to R$200, plus Meta's fees
AI agent with implementation Knowledge base, rules, integrations and ongoing follow-up done together with the company By proposal: license, implementation, ongoing follow-up and Meta's fees

Meta's fees: a sample calculation

The official WhatsApp API is charged per message. In Meta's rate card in Brazilian reais for July 2026, as published by NicoChat, a marketing message costs R$0.3217, and utility and authentication messages cost R$0.0350 each. Since October 1, 2026, each number has had 1,000 free customer service replies per month, and the ones after that are charged at the utility rate, according to 360dialog.

Example

A company sends 6,000 customer service replies a month on a single number and 500 campaign messages to contacts who have opted in. The first 1,000 replies are free, and the other 5,000 cost R$0.0350 each, which comes to R$175.00. The 500 marketing messages cost R$0.3217 each, which comes to R$160.85. The total in Meta's fees is R$335.85 for the month, not counting the license and the ongoing follow-up. This is an illustrative calculation; check the current amounts in Meta's rate card.

The details of the categories, the free windows and the 2026 rules are in Official WhatsApp API: Pricing in Brazil and AI Rules in 2026.

What makes the price go up or down

Factor Lower cost Higher cost
Volume of conversations A few hundred per month Thousands per day, with peaks
Integrations The calendar only Calendar, CRM, checkout and internal systems
Business rules Frequently asked questions and simple scheduling Qualification, negotiation, several locations and professionals
Numbers and languages One number, one language Several numbers, brands or languages
Ongoing follow-up Quarterly review Weekly review of conversations and continuous adjustments
Campaigns Customer service only Frequent campaigns, with marketing fees

The cost of not replying

The price of the agent only makes sense when compared with what the company loses today. A simple calculation helps put a number on it:

contacts without a fast reply per month × close rate × average sale value = revenue at stake

Hypothetical example

A company receives 120 contacts a month outside business hours. If 1 in every 10 contacts usually becomes a sale and the average value is R$2,000, the revenue at stake in those contacts is R$24,000 a month. The numbers are illustrative: the calculation shows the size of the problem; it does not promise that the agent recovers that amount.

To gather these numbers, look at the times when messages arrive on WhatsApp, the sales team's close rate and the average sale value. The full path, from the search to the sale, is in How to Sell on WhatsApp.

How to compare proposals

Two proposals with the same monthly price can deliver very different things. Six questions make the comparison fair:

  1. What does the license include? How many conversations, human agents, numbers and channels, and what happens when the volume goes over the limit.
  2. What does the implementation deliver? Knowledge base, tone of voice, rules, integrations, tests and team training.
  3. Are Meta's fees included? Usually not. Ask for an estimate based on your volume.
  4. What does the ongoing follow-up look like? How often someone reads the conversations, updates the knowledge base and delivers reports.
  5. Which integrations are in the price? Calendar, CRM, checkout and forms, and the cost of a new integration.
  6. How does the contract end? Term, price adjustment and what happens to the data and the knowledge base at the end.

Important

Ask for the proposal to show separately the cost of the technology, the cost of the implementation and follow-up work and the estimate of Meta's fees. Meta's prices and rules change often, and the charge for customer service replies has applied since October 1, 2026.

In short

  • The cost has four parts: technology, implementation, Meta's fees and ongoing follow-up.
  • In Brazil, chatbot plans with public pricing start at around R$100 to R$200 per month. Agents with implementation are sold by proposal.
  • Meta's fees are charged per message and, since October 1, 2026, also on customer service replies above 1,000 per month.
  • Volume, integrations, rules, numbers and ongoing follow-up are what change the price the most.
  • Compare proposals by what each part includes, not just by the monthly amount.
