Bioenergia Brasil, the association that has represented Brazil's sugar and bioenergy industry since 2003, relies on Flowup Agency for its WordPress platform and its source governance for AI. In 371 days (August 12, 2025 to August 17, 2026), the website bioenergiabrasil.com.br recorded 3,100 clicks and 83,000 organic impressions on Google, with a 52% CTR on the branded query.
This case study documents a new problem that looks like an old one: how an institution makes sure that search engines and AIs cite the right source when its own name (in English, Bioenergy Brazil) is, at the same time, a brand, the name of the industry and the registered name of other, similarly named companies. With data from Google Search Console and Semrush.
Who Bioenergia Brasil is
Bioenergia Brasil is the association that has represented Brazil's sugar and bioenergy industry since 2003, with an agenda that runs from sugar and ethanol to sustainable aviation fuel, biogas and green hydrogen. It is the industry's institutional voice in publications, events, the press and relations with government, with Mário Campos as president and Roberto Hollanda Filho as executive director.
Its audience is people who work with official information: members, journalists, government and researchers. For an organization like this, the website is not a showcase: it is the primary source that others cite. And that changes what doing SEO means.

Being cited correctly: by people, by search engines and by AIs
An industry association produces the information the market consumes. The risk is not failing to appear: it is appearing wrong, with an old version, a secondary page or, worse, the wrong entity. Three layers read the same name in different ways.
-
People
Members, the press and government, who need the industry's official position straight from the source, with no ambiguity and no intermediary.
-
Search engines
A name that is a brand, the name of the industry and the registered name of third parties requires strong entity signals for Google to return the right page.
-
AI systems
LLMs cite associations as sources by nature. Without governance, they cite the wrong URL, the outdated version or the similarly named company.
For an association, the product is official information. Governing how it is found, interpreted and cited is part of the institutional mandate, not a technical detail.
The project through the B.I.N.A. Method
The project design follows the four fronts of the B.I.N.A. Method, Flowup's methodology for GEO, AEO and AI SEO.
-
Information Base
An Official AI Knowledge Base with explicit instructions for AI: use the official pages as the primary source, cite the exact URL and consult the map of sources by type of information.
-
Intent Intelligence
The people searching work with official information: members, the press, government and researchers. In the period, 82% of clicks came in through the home page: the audience goes straight to the institution.
-
Authority Core
A continuous institutional agenda, with industry news, opinion, events, publications and press coverage. The editorial work leads Google to return the association for the name of the industry itself.
-
Digital Asset
A WordPress platform in continuous operation, with development, performance and monthly support, and the declared entity that separates the association from the similarly named companies.
An institutional platform with a lookup route for AI
The foundation is a WordPress platform kept in continuous operation and, on top of it, the piece that gives this case study its name: the governance layer that guides machines on what to cite. Seven integrated fronts:
-
Official AI Knowledge Base
The heart of the project: a canonical page with explicit instructions for AI (use the official pages as the primary source and cite the exact URL) and the map of where to look for what: institutional information, members, publications, press and contact. Credits and disciplines are recorded for traceability.
-
WordPress platform
A stable institutional structure for content, news, events and publications: Flowup's website development practice.
-
Development and performance
Continuous technical evolution and speed kept under watch, on the performance optimization and Core Web Vitals front.
-
Monthly support
Ongoing upkeep, with routine updates, security and adjustments: the practice of WordPress website maintenance (in Portuguese).
-
Digital marketing and editorial
Support for the institutional agenda: industry news, events and publications that sustain the association's presence in the topics it represents.
-
SEO, GEO and AEO
Traditional search and AI answer layers, led by SEO specialists with the GEO and AEO fronts.
-
E-E-A-T and entity
Consistency of authorship, attribution and trust signals: the semantic foundation that AI SEO organizes.

The numbers: institution, Search Console and Semrush, with a stated period
Flowup only publishes a case study metric with a stated source and period. The search data comes from the Google Search Console of the bioenergiabrasil.com.br property (web search, August 12, 2025 to August 17, 2026, 371 days) and from Semrush, Brazil database; the institutional data is published by the association itself.
- 2003is the year the association began representing the industry: more than two decades of institutional voice (data from the official website).
- 6disciplines applied by Flowup: WordPress, development and performance, monthly support, digital marketing, SEO, GEO and AEO, and E-E-A-T.
- 2xthe organic keywords in five months: from 52 to 102 (Semrush, Brazil database, March to July 2026).
- 3,100organic clicks recorded by Search Console in the period: search traffic, with no paid media in the count.
- 83,000impressions in Google Search in the same period, across 131 countries.
- 52%CTR on the branded query, with an average position of 1.48: people who search for the association find it in first position and click.
Two readings complete the picture. First: the profile is that of an official source. Of the clicks, 82% come in through the home page and 75% come from desktop computers: members, the press and government going straight to the institution. For “bioenergia” (bioenergy), the name of the industry itself, the site appears with an average position of 6.9 across 19,600 impressions. Second: in the Semrush sample, 91% of the 103 keywords trigger People Also Ask and 32% show an AI Overview, exactly the answer layer the Official AI Knowledge Base works on.
Methodology: Search Console, bioenergiabrasil.com.br, web search, August 12, 2025 to August 17, 2026 (371 days); Semrush, Brazil database, March to July 2026 series and August 2026 snapshot; institutional data from the official website. Because the association's name coincides with the name of the industry, the split between branded and non-branded is stated row by row in the table. Values are rounded conservatively and no metric is extrapolated.
The engine: being the institution Google returns
The traffic tells the story of an established entity: Google returns the association for the name of the industry, for institutional topics, such as the parliamentary front for ethanol and 20 years of the flex-fuel car in Brazil, and even for the names of its leaders. And when the editorial content steps outside the bubble, it competes: the piece about Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and the electric car ranks first in searches on the topic, with 8,300 impressions on the page itself.
The selection below shows this territory, with the average positions for the period. The purely navigational branded queries (“bioenergia brasil” and variants, with a CTR of about 52%) were left out, and each row states what it is:
| Query | Average position | Impressions | CTR |
|---|---|---|---|
| “bioenergia” (bioenergy, the name of the industry) | 6.9 | 19,583 | 1.9% |
| “bio energia” (bio energy) | 6.8 | 3,091 | 2.1% |
| “usina bioenergia” (bioenergy mill) | 4.4 | 751 | 1.2% |
| “bioenergia empresa” (bioenergy company) | 2.7 | 697 | 8.8% |
| “bioenergia no brasil” (bioenergy in Brazil) | 2.4 | 206 | 6.3% |
| “roberto hollanda” (the executive director) | 4.3 | 188 | 2.1% |
| “carro do mr bean na vida real” (Mr. Bean's car in real life, an editorial story) | 1.0 | 590 | 1.0% |
Ranking for the name of its own industry is the ultimate entity test for an association: Google has learned that, when the subject is bioenergy, this domain is the institution that answers.
Source governance: a Bioenergia Brasil with no ambiguity
With 91% of the project's SERPs triggering People Also Ask and a name contested by similarly named companies, the project structured the layer that gives this case study its name: the lookup route that tells machines what to cite, and from where.
-
Official AI Knowledge Base
A canonical page with explicit instructions for AI: use the official pages as the primary source, cite the exact URL and consult the map of sources by type of information (institutional, members, publications, press and contact), with credits and disciplines recorded. See the Bioenergia Brasil Knowledge Base.
-
Entity disambiguation
Search Console records searches for similarly named companies, such as “BrasBio, Brasil Bioenergia S.A.” and “Bioenergia do Brasil S/A”, arriving at the association's website. The canonical layer declares to machines which entity this is: the association of the sugar and bioenergy industry, not a company in the industry.
These layers work as a semantic contract: they say who Bioenergia Brasil is, what it represents and where each piece of official information lives. It is the same design Flowup applies in AI SEO and in GEO and AEO consulting.
